Band: Lantun Orchestra feat. Brass Parts
Hello guys! Who doesn’t know the Lantun Orchestra? A cool music group that successfully combines traditional Betawi nuances with a modern jazz touch, aka the pioneers of Betawi Jazz! The music is unique and rich in flavor, and often makes us sway and relax while thinking about the beauty of Jakarta.
But, have you ever paid attention to one of the loudest “gangs” in the Lantun Orchestra? Yup, we’re talking about the Brass Section!
Brass Section: Essentially the Power of Sound
For those who are not too familiar, the Brass Section is a group of metal wind instruments. They are like the powerhouse or source of the most powerful sound energy in an orchestra or band. Why? Because their voices are loud, kicking, and make the musical arrangement even more dramatic and magnificent.
At Lantun Orchestra, the presence of the Brass Section provides a very exciting twist! Imagine, a catchy xylophone or ukulele melody is suddenly sounded by a high-pitched trumpet or trombone which provides a thick and soulful groove. Wow, it gives me goosebumps and makes me want to dance!
Who are the members?
In general orchestra formations, the Brass Section is usually filled by:
1. Trumpet (Trumpet): The king of melody with the highest voice and often becomes the leader to give punch to the music.
2. Trombone: The cool one with a distinctive slide mechanism. His voice is heavier and deeper, often providing thick harmonies or cool riffs.
3. French Horn (French Korn): Even though the sound is softer and “softer” than the Trumpet/Trombone, it is an important bridge between Brass and other instruments, giving a warm feel.
4. Tuba: The biggest one! The sound is the lowest, serving as the foundation or bass of the Brass Section, making the music stable and majestic.
In several Lantun Orchestra songs (such as in the song “Sekar” which they released), we can really hear the Brass element, for example there are Trumpets and Trombones which are very spicy, giving them a thick jazz color. Not just following the melody, they also add cool layers that make Betawi Jazz music even richer.
Why is the Brass Section Important in Lantun Orchestra?
Betawi music is originally cheerful, lively and full of enthusiasm. Well, this Brass Section has really succeeded in capturing and boosting that energy!
• Adds Soul and Strength: Their brass sound gives a strong soulful and jazz touch, very suitable for the genre they are promoting.
• Fun Contrasting Colors: The contrast between a mellow acoustic instrument (such as a violin, accordion or ukulele) with a bold Brass sound actually makes the music dynamic and not boring. Like the perfect combination of spicy and sweet flavors!
• Make Real “Orchestra” Arrangements: Even though the music is casual and relaxing, the presence of the Brass Section is what really brings out the “Orchestra” feel in their name. So it’s not just an ordinary band, but it has a majestic and cinematic feel.
In essence, the Brass Section at Lantun Orchestra is like the secret sauce that makes dishes special. They are not just sounds, but they are the soul that gives power and strong character to this already unique Betawi Jazz music.
So, the next time you watch Lantun Orchestra, try to focus on listening to the Brass part. Guaranteed auto-nodding so fun!
