Monthly Jam Sessions at Djazz School – Chaka Music Productions

For those of you who are looking for a Jazz music jam session location in West Jakarta, this place must be on your visit list: Elowen Coffee. At the end of every month, this cafe is transformed into a stage for a neat collaboration between Djazz Music School students and professional tutors to play Jazz Standards numbers.

This afternoon, I had the opportunity to host a jamming session led by a line-up of great musicians: Dion Janapria (Guitar), Sheryl Joanna (Piano), Tobias Ringga (Drums), and Elgi McGlenner (Vocals).

The repertoire performed is very diverse and pleasing to the ears, ranging from iconic vocal songs to deep instrumentals, including:

• Poinciana (Nat Simon)

• But Not For Me (George Gershwin)

• Chega de Saudade (Antonio Carlos Jobim)

• Invitation (Bronisław Kaper)

• Stolen Moments (Oliver Nelson)

The rhythm of swing music, Afro-Cuban, and bossanova bends dominate the cozy cafe space. Coupled with rich solo improvisations from the musicians, it creates an atmosphere that is highly anticipated by Jazz music fans.

To enjoy this atmosphere, the price of coffee here is quite affordable, starting from around IDR 40,000. Oh yes, it is reported that in early 2026 there will be slight renovations and changes to the concept of the place. Let’s just wait for the good news!
